Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Certified Journeyman Electrician to join our growing team. The Certified Journeyman Electrician will be responsible for overseeing electrical installations, wiring, and connections for commercial solar projects. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems and codes, as well as hand-on experience in electrical planning, mobilization, construction, and troubleshooting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Regularly to review, interpret, and implement construction blueprints.
• Provide guidance and training to junior electricians and registered electrical apprentices.
• Install, wire, and interconnect electrical components and systems for commercial solar projects, including AC and DC wiring, inverters, combiner boxes, sub panels, disconnects, breakers, conduit, meter boxes, distribution panels, etc.
• Accurately bend, measure, cut, and hang electrical conduit runs.
• Regular confirm conduit fill ratios and pull appropriate conductors through conduit.
• Ensure proper grounding and bonding.
• Plan and manage the tie-in of the electrical system to the building’s switch gear or behind the meter connections, including but not limited to main breaker connections and line-side tap connections.
• Occasionally perform main service panel upgrades, services wire upgrades, battery energy storage system installations, and electric vehicle charging station installations.
• Coordinate utility shutdowns and ensure preparedness and timely execution of duties to ensure minimal downtime.
• Conduct electrical system testing, quality control, and inspections to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Ensure that all electrical work performed is of good workmanship and compliant with current NEC and local codes, regulations, and safety standards governing solar energy and electrical component installation and operation.
• Collaborate with superintendents, foreman, construction managers, project coordinators, engineers, subcontractors, and all other relevant stakeholders to coordinate electrical installation activities and ensure project milestones and schedules are met.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues and implement solutions to ensure the safety, functionality, and performance of solar systems.
• Maintain accurate records of electrical work performed, including wiring diagrams, schematics, as-built drawings, materials used, equipment maintenance, and worked hours.
• Participate in pre-installation meetings and site surveys to assess electrical requirements and develop installation plans.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, including safety protocols and quality control measures, while performing electrical installation activities.
• Promote a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment for all team members.
• Ensure the company vehicle is equipped with the inventory needed as well as ensure the vehicle is in proper operating condition.
• Ensure manpower and resources are adequate to complete the project.
• Supervise the use of machinery and equipment.
• Monitor expenditures and be mindful of budgetary constraints.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
• Valid Electrical Journeyman certificate issued by the State of California.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in electrical construction and installation, with a focus on commercial projects.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in solar installation or related field preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical installation techniques, equipment, and materials, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Experience with the installation and commissioning of commercial photovoltaic systems on roofs, shade structures, car ports, canopies, and ground mounts.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team toward common goals.
•Strong problem-solving a bilities and attention to detail, with the capacity to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Familiarity with construction processes, electrical systems, and relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
• Ability to read drawings, plans, and blueprints, and annotate as-built alterations.
• Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to handle heavy, physical, repetitive movement, and regularly lift 60+ lbs.
• Ability to work comfortably and safely at heights, on ladders, in attics, basements, sloped roofs, trenches, confined spaces, and rough terrain.
• Ability to work and maintain balance on roofs, rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without damage.
• Ability to frequently utilize hand functions requiring fine motor skills and torque-strength including but not limited to fine manipulation, grasping, twisting, pinching, pressing, pulling, etc.
• Experience operating and working on lift equipment.
• Ability to work while wearing heavy personal protective equipment such as fall protection, arc flash suits, hot gloves, safety gloves, safety glasses, face shields, protective work boots, helmets, vests, etc.
• Ability to work comfortably outdoors in diverse weather conditions including hot, cold, and wet for a full day’s shift.
• Ability to distinguish colors such as red, black, yellow, white, green, and blue.
• Ability to hear and sound verbal commands and warnings.
• Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate protection.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and respect.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
• Must have own tools, tool belts, work boots, hot gloves, and transportation.
• Minimum OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
